Devil May Cry 1 » Where does this DMC game take place in the whole series?

Hi,

I didn't play any of DMC games before but, i've finished this one and for me it wasn't so bad, i liked the game in general, maybe i will buy the DMC original collection and play the whole series, but where is DMC devil may cry take place in the story, is it about the beginning of dante as a demon slayer or what?
